Naming streets, statues, schools and buildings after "important" people in Canadas history represents a false narrative about Canadas history
Because of this statues have been stolen and vandalized. One example being a statue of Sir John A Macdonald and replaced with 1000 pairs of children's shoes to represent the harm he has done to Indigenous children.

Simply removing the statues is not enough. There need to be constant efforts for the harm to be undone.
The Indian Act, which was first passed in 1876, included a variety of colonial legislation intended at eradicating First Nations culture in favour of integration into Euro-Canadian society. The Act has been revised multiple times, most notably in 1951 and 1985, with amendments mostly aimed at removing discriminatory provisions.
Canada was "given" to a few Englishmen and they had monopoly on the rivers and land flowing into the Hudson's bay

Children in the residential school were sexually, physically and mentally abused

Due to the abuse of the children that would later grow up to be parents they did not know any other way and abused their own children.
