obedience
• According to Ibn Manzur (1997), word of ibadah (5) means "obedience - ketaatan"
• Terminology, Ibadah is obedience because of obey - ketaatan kerana kepatuhan.
• Origin of "ubudiyyah" is obedience and disgrace - kepatuhan dan penghinaan.
• "worshiping to God", means he is obedient and surrender to every direction and prohibition of his Lord and feels disgraceful in the presence of his Lord.
• So, all forms of obedience to Allah SWT due to obey and contempt are worship.
Worship
• Worship is part of the form of obedience to something /someone.
• Worship is not deserved except to the Provider with all the gifts such as life, understanding, hearing and sight (al-Qardawi, 1995).
• Ibn Taimiyyah (1999) said "worship is a complex name, which covers everything that God loves and acceptance, in the form of words and deeds that are inward and outward.
Definition
• This definition includes every activity of human life is worship
• Worship does not only count on prayers, zakat. fasting pilgrimage and charity, but it includes honesty in speaking, fulfilling trust, devotion to parents, pleasing promise, jihad, doing good to neighbors and orphans, praying and zikir.
• Similarly, practicing noble attitudes and behaviors. such as patience, sincerity, gratefulness, trust, reliance and hope for His mercy are included in worship.
Maududi (2006) said worship comes from the words 'abd
that mean "slave, servant" Therefore, ibadah means "to perform the duty as a servant". Because, a man is a slave to his Lord.
Hence, he needs to devote himself, obedience and do as a servant to his master.
Ibadah can also be defined as "faqarrub" (approaching) to Allah SWT by obeying all His commands, trying to keep away from the prohibitions and practice which He permits (al Falahi 2006).
Ibn Taimiyyah (1999), the purpose of worship is a practice, done with obedience, consistency and loyalty to the path which He has determined
True Worship is a worhip performed to gain the acceptance of Allah SWT and worship performed based on the things that have been prescribed (syariat)
This means that the two main conditions for the worship are actually worship that are sincerely and comply with the method in Islam
This definition rejects the worship done for other purposes beside Allah SWT as proud, riya and arrogant. He also refused worship that was done not based on the concept of sharia, created by human and bid'ah.
The worship of Islam is not only focused on material. Then the rich and poor can do it
Worship is also not limited to spiritual practices orily so everybody can do it.
In Islam, worship has a wide range of contexts across humankind such as rich and poor, educated and illiterate, strong and weak (al-Qardhawi, 2005).
Worship in Islam has a broad concept and covers every aspect of the life of a Muslim
The concept of worship should not be understood in the narrow and thin form as understood by some
Muslims.
For these people, worship is just what is done in a certain place such as mosque and surau or limited at a certain time.
While worship is an activity that encompasses the inner and outer at all times.
