Around 1939, Giovanni Giorgi proposed a four-dimensional system, Meter, Kilogram, Second (MKS) and a fourth electric unit, to be chosen. After the war, in 1946, the CIPM took up the matter again and passed a resolution defining the ampere, volt and ohm electrical units. These definitions came into force in 1948 and were approved by the ninth General Conference of 1948.
