Childcare Setting (nursary)
Environmental
unsafe outdoor areas
Children could be playing on a climbing frame that is old, broken and rotted. It is not safe for them to play on it. They could fall, slip get splinters, hurt themselves;
Biological
Vomit or bodily fluid on the floor
Could cause slippages. Children could not see it and end up hurting themselves. Its also very unhygienic for the children in the environment.
Chemical
Medication
If there is medication onsite in the nursery
it should be locked away in a cupboard high up out of reach of children. It should also be recorded when a child is given the medication.
Physical
Noise
If there is too much noise in a situation communication could be poor and the children wont be able to hear you and understand what you are saying. If there is an emergency children wont be able to hear clear instructions because of the noise.
Musculoskeletal
Broken Desk Seating
If the desks that the children use for activities are damaged it could cause physical harm to the child, they could fall off the chair and hurt themselves. They could lean on the table and get a splinter or cut.
Working conditions
Too hot/cold
If the setting is too warm or too cold the children could become agitated and unsettled. This could cause them to get upset or even ill if the temperature is wrong for long periods of time.
Working Practices
Safeguarding
The nursery practitioners need to know the ware bouts of the children at all times. They also need to make sure they know what persons they are letting in and out the building
Lack of security
No locks or alarms
The staff at the nursary need to know who is getting into the building, but then they also need to make sure that the children cannot get out.
