Rotational Motion

Angular Displacement

Radians(rad)

Angular Velocity

radian per second (rad/s)

Angular Acceleration

radian per second squared (rad/s^2)

Angular displacement

Definition: The angle in radian in which a point or line can rotate in a specific axis.

Angular Displacement = central angle = linear displacement (arc length[curved length]) / radius of rotation

SI units: Radian (rad)

Angular velocity

Definition: Rate of change of a rotating body around an axis

Angular velocity(rad/s) = Velocity(m/s) /radius of rotation(m)

SI units: radian per second (rad/s)

Important formulas:

Linear displacement(m) = radius of rotation(m) x angular displacement (rad)

Tangential velocity(m/s) = radius(m) * angular velocity(rad/s)

Tangential acceleration(m/s^2) = radius of rotation(m) * angular acceleration(rad/s^2)

Normal or centripetal acceleration(m/s^2) = radius of rotation(m) * angular velocity(rad/s)^2

Normal centripetal acceleration(m/s^2) = tangential velocity(m/s^2) / radius of rotation(m)

Basic angular formulas

Final angular velocity (rad/s) = initial angular velocity(rad/s) + angular acceleration (rad/s^2) * time(s)

Final angular distance = initial angular + final angular velocity time + 1/2 acceleration * time ^2

Final angular velocity^2 = initial angular velocity^2 + 2 acceleration *(finial displacement - initial displacement)
