the middle of the cloud, gravity pulled in more and more gas and dust until the center grew larger and larger.

It was born from a giant cloud of gas and dust that started to collapse in on itself and began spinning.
The particles, called atoms, became so hot from the pressure that they joined in a process called fusion. This released a great amount of energy and gave birth to the Sun.

The rocks, gas, and dust that did not form larger objects became asteroids, comets, and smaller space rocks called meteoroids.
As some of these clumps became larger, gravity began to form them into sphere shapes.
Because the Sun used up almost 99 percent of the gas and dust from the early solar system, these smaller clumps could not grow big enough for fusion to occur.
They became the planets, moons, and dwarf planets.
