Performance assessment can simply be defined as an assessment that checks not only the students knowledge, but also their application of the knowledge in real situations. Rather than choosing a right answer or simply memorizing, PSA uses PBL, reports, portfolios, or performance tasks etc. to see how the students can retain, contextualize, and apply their learning of the content matter to real world situations. It is important to note that performance assessment varies from classroom to classroom and is differentiated. PA is positively co4elated to deeper learning, wider understanding, and longer retention of learning by the students. PA can be used as both formative and summative, based on the schools grading system.
Example: STEM based projects, Art Portfolios, Exhibition Tasks ( Essay Writing, Poster Making etc.),
