ASL
Birth to 1 Year: Vocal Babbling, Manual Babbling
1-2 Years: Communication gestures, sign handshape errors, baby signs, first signs.
2-3 Years: Two-sign sentences, correct pronouns, wh- questions with facial expressions, verb agreement, some classifier handshapes, fingerspelling
3-4 Years: Topicalization and conditions, directional verbs, more fingerspelling.
4 Years or Older: Complex sentences, classifiers, more fingerspelling
Speech

1-2 Years: Communication gestures, word errors, baby words, first words
2-3 Years: Two-word sentences, word parts, conversations. wh- questions
3-4 Years: Consistent Morphemes, irregular forms of verbs, simple sentences
4 Years and Older: Complex sentences, grammar development
Hearing
Birth to 1 Year: Responses to changes in tone of voice, pays attention to music, plays peeka-boo, listens when spoken to
1-2 Years: Points to body parts when asked, follows simple commands, understands simple questions, enjoys simple stories and songs, points to pictures
2-3 Years: Understands the difference of go/stop up/down in/on, follows two step requests
3-4 Years: Hears when someone calls from other room, understands simple questions
4 Years and Older: Pays attention to a short story, answers questions about stories, understands what is said at home and in school.

Chaining
Teacher uses sign, fingerspelling, writing, pictures, and gestures to introduce or emphasize a specific concept or term.

Chunking
Teacher identifies words or groups of words that represent one unit of meaning or one sign in ASL and following a discussion of appropriate translation.

Codeswitching
Teacher uses one language, then switches to another language.
ASL Summary
The teacher signs a summary of a story. Then children read the print version of the story, then discuss.
