Do's and Don'ts while teaching Math
Do's
Maintain a friendly environment
One concept at a time
Create or present a situation before teaching a new concept
Give children time to think and explore
Math is way more beyond classroom. So take chances to go outside the classroom and teach
Technology has provided us with many innovative techniques and manipulatives. Use them while teaching especially in online class
Chapters like profit and loss are very much related to life. So try bringing in most of the real world situations in such topics
Math teacher can also be a great councilor. So try getting the trust of children so that they can share their problems
Many students have an innate fear of math. As a teacher try your best to get the child to like the subject. A teacher's motivation makes a whole lot of difference.
Put on a smile while teaching. Makes a lot of difference
Take inputs from children. They are great thinkers
Ask for feed back and their suggestions
Don'ts
Don't be harsh to wrong answers
Don't create robots
Don't always take chorus answers as there are always children who need more time to think and don't always get a chance to speak
Don't give projects that require much money. Train them to use what's available and show their creativity.
Don't be very harsh or very friendly. Keep a balance
Don't say it's a difficult topic or subject. Children will loose interest then and there
Don't give wrong explanations to the topics you don't know. Rather say I'll get back to you with the correct answer.
Don't make the kids learn the sums and formulae. Rather make them understand
Don't try to cover up but rather admit mistake
Don't underestimate the capacity of children
Don't stick to old methods. Keep updating
Don't stick to your own method of problem solving. Let children explore new and different ones
