Module 2 Design Principles - Coggle Diagram
Module 2 Design Principles
Lesson 1 Learning Theories
Behaviourism
Stimulus followed by positive or negative reinforcement
how people and animals form behaviours
Pavlov and Skinner
Teaching machines 1960s
Learners progress through material in small steps
regular and frequent formative feedback
repetition
Application in digital learning
learning outcomes
repetition of content
assessment questions
gamification
badges, leader boards etc
Cognitivism
focus on cognitive development
Piaget
kids learn experientially
measurable learning outcomes
Bloom's taxonomy
learner-centred
showcasing of knowledge and skills
application in digital learning
feedback to shape the learner
chunking material
active involvement in learning
Constructivism
Lev Vygotsky
social constructivism
Bruner
scaffolding
learner at the centre of the learning experience
adaptive learning
scaffolding
guiding and providing support
social learning
application in digital learning
scaffolding eg clear signposting and navigation
assessment and feedback
social learning
social media
LMS with clear instructions
Lesson 2 Learning Outcomes and Bloom's Taxonomy
Learning outcomes
introduction
plan in advance
LO = what learners should be able to do as a result of the learning
KSA or values
measurable
beneficial for instructors and learners
getting started
how will the outcome be assessed/measured?
clear and meaningful to learners
specific action verbs
ABCD
actor - who with regard to the learning?
behaviour - what do we want the actor to be able to do?
conditions - how do we want them to do it?
degree - to what standard do we want them to do it?
SMART
I know what this means
Bloom's Taxonomy
Introduction
hierarchical domain set to help identify and create specific and accurate learning outcomes
3 domains - cognitive, affective and psychomotor - cognitive gets the most attention
6 hierarchical levels in the cognitive domain - remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, create
see verb list in Module 2 folder
remember/understand = knowledge
apply/analyse = skill
evaluate/create = expertise
digital taxonomy
based on Bloom's
puts the six levels on a thinking skills scale - lower order thinking skills (LOTS) to higher order thinking skills (HOTS)
As with Bloom's, achieve LOTS first the progress towards HOTS
