What is the main conflict?
The main conflict revolves around Rafael Trujillo and the dictator ship he's created.
What is/are the minor conflict(s)?
Religious beliefs
Womens rights (arguably a main conflict.)
relationships (The father cheating, Leena's relationship with Trujillo)
prejudice beliefs
How are all the conflicts related?
The conflicts mainly occur all under the same time Trujillo is in controle of the government. He has a hand in most of the more minor themes/issues of the novel.
What causes the conflicts?
During Trujillo's rise to power he did many things that effected the lives of many this as well as his prejudice believes influence others perspectives.
Which conflicts are external, which internal?
The dictatorship and revolutions are external conflicts
Minerva's inner struggles and suffering from loss of family and rights.
Towards the beginning of the novel one of the sisters mentions the mental image and scares from surviving the dictatorship and it's horrors took a toll on her mentally this an internal conflict
The corruption in government and religion-are external conflicts as well as women's rights
Who is the protagonist?
I believe the protagonists are the butterfly sisters, but the main protagonist is Minerva.
What qualities or values does the author associate with each side of the conflict?
Trujillo believes that he is right and deserves to be at the top. Because of his beliefs he creates a rule of injustice between genders. Even while this occurs many believe Trujillo is a good president, or those who are aware of the unfairness are to afraid to do anything about it because Trujillo has no reservations about killing those who stand in his way or who he disagrees with. In desires power and values it.
The butterfly sisters value freedom and democracy. They understand what it's like to live under a rule where life isn't fair and clearly cruel to those who oppose it.
Where does the climax occur? Why?
The climax of the novel starts when Minerva and teresa are under arrest and taken to jail because of the fight they they put up against injustice.
How is the main conflict resolved?
When Trujillo is killed his dictatorship is at an end and so ends the his unjust rein.
Which conflicts go unresolved? Why?
The mental and emotional trama caused by the main conflict isn't something so easily resolved and because of this it becomes hard for a solution witch is why things regarding the events during the dictatorship still haunt Dede
What major conflict does the novel dramatize?
The dictatorship and the unfairness between genders are the major themes in the novel. These are clearly the most emphasized conflicts.
