Lived a nomadic lifesyle- had not fixed home and they followed the buffalo and took all of their belongings with them.

The mormons
The mormons were a religious group that were persecuted all across the American west for their belifs.
They practiced Polygamy (having more than one wife) and this was one of the main reasons they were persecuted
They travelled from kirtland,Missori,Nauvoo and then ended their journey at Salt lake city
The early settlers
First farmers

They wanted to move to California and Oregon becuase those areas were fertile and perfect for farming.
However some of the travelling parties struggled on their journey and would end up with people being killed.
The mountain men

They created paths (such as the Oregon trail) that the later settlers would follow to reach their destinations.
The gold miners
10,000 people in 1849 that all went west becuase of the discovery of gold in calfornia
It was a very difficult journey and some once they got their woudl never find gold since others would have already taken it.
There was lots of crime, riots and racism in the mining towns. They were not one of the nicest places to be.
However the mining towns benifitted lots from the fold rush since people needed to buy supplies. Places like San Fransico became weathly very quicky.

Anti-slavery rebellions - A man named Nat turner led an uprising against slavery. 60 peopel were killed plus 200+ slaves were executed

Missouri compromise - Anything about Missouri was a free state and anything below was a slave state.

Lost huge amounts of cotton - 4 million in 1861 , 300,00 in 1865

The north

Industries making weapons, uniforms and railroads all did well/ profited
Higher taxes and inflation. Wages kept low due to women and young boys willingly working for less money
Politcal Impacts
Emancipation Proclimation - 1863 , all slaves were freed
Civil rights act - 1866 , All races except Natives were full US citizens
14th ammendment - 1868 , freed slaves protected by the law
Civil rights act 2.0 - 1870 , reinforced the 1866 act
15th ammendment - 1869 , ex slaves could now vote and stand for governement
