Characteristics of public and private education in Ecuador
Public education
Education is compulsory, participatory, inclusive, intercultural and diverse.
Financial support comes from taxes paid by citizens.
It is funded by the state which provides study materials, resources, among other things which many times is not enough.
Admission is free regardless of social status and the number of students is high.
The resources allocated to education are governed by criteria of social, population and territorial equity.
Public education will be universal and secular at all levels, and free up to and including the third level of higher education.
Ecuadorian public education dates back to the constitution of the nation as a sovereign and independent Republic.
Public education is that provided by public educational institutions, that is, controlled and
managed by a state body, a public authority or elected by the citizenry

Private education
Private education is directly related to the per capita income of users, the cost of schooling and the indicators of educational offer.
There are private institutions with religious and military roots.
Greater autonomy in the choice of academic content.
It is aimed at the middle and upper social classes.
The level of students in private institutions is lower than in public institutions and also the education provided is more personalized.
Strong application of new information and communication technologies.
The differences in favor of private schools are more marked at the middle and upper income levels and, in fact, at the lowest income level public school students achieve higher achievements.
