Anadiplosis
Definition: Repetition of the final words of a sentence or line at the beginning of the text
Example: Page 39 "It's about time you started supporting your own lifestyle. What lifestyle?"
Epistrophe
Definition: The petition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences.
Example:Page 25 "If you peel,' Marina replied severely. 'can Ruben stay? It's Saturday.' 'If he wants. Tell him he can use the telephone to call his mother. He he has to peel too."
Epanalepsis
Definition: Repetition after intervening words.
Example: Page 14 "Sometimes he did and sometimes he didn't."
Antithesis
Definition: A contrast or opposition between two things
Example: Page 24 "Chief McKenzie drew a good deal less salary than what my father made managing the store and there were a few luxuries."
Asyndeton
Definition: Omission of conjunctions that ordinarily join words or clauses.
Example: Page 39 "You know what. Movies, magazines, computer games. All that stuff you buy at them mall. Books."
Polysyndeton
Definition: Using conjunctions in close succession, especially where some would usually be omitted.
Example: Page 5 "Must be the liquor Prohibition back in the 1920's you're interested in, rum runners, and hijackers, fast boats and dark nights."
Anaphora
Definition: The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses.
Example:Page 11 "She's got twin airplane engines, you know. She does over thirty knots."
