Epistrophe
Definition:The repetition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences.
Example pg 7- "Had adventures. What adventures? David asks."
Polysyndeton
Defenition: Using conjunctions in close succession, especially where some would usually be omitted.
Example pg 61: "I'll be mucking and plucking and watering the flocks."
Epanalepsis
Definition: Repetition after intervening words
Example pg 39: "It's about time you started supporting your own lifestyle. What lifestyle? David had protested. How can I have a lifestyle when I live at home?"
Anaphora pg 38
Definition: The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses.
Example pg 38- "He wants to get this interview, he needs to write this story. He allows the lie to stand."
Anadiplosis
Definition: Repetition of the final words of a sentence or line at the beginning of the next.
Example pg 39: " You know what. Movies,magazines,computer games. All that stuff you buy at the mall. Books. Books! you mean, for high school next fall?"
Asyndeton
Definition: Omission of Conjunctions, that ordinary join words or clauses.
Example pg 39- "You know what. Movies, magazines, computer games. All that stuff you buy at the mall."
Antithesis
Definition: A contrast or opposition between two things
Example pg 24- "At the McKenzie's, the pressure lifted. The family was just this side of poor. Chief McKenzie drew a good deal less salary than what my father made managing the store, and there were few luxuries."
