Epistrophe
Definition: The repetition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences.
Example: “Had adventures. What adventures?” page 7
Anadiplosis
Definition: Repition of the final words of a sentence or line at the beginning of the next.
Example: “It’s like it’s somehow got lifted. Lifted?” Page 62-63
Antithesis
Definition: A contrast or opposition between two things.
Example: “Chief McKenzie drew a good deal less salary than what my father made managing the store, and there were few luxuries. “
Anaphora
Definition: The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses.
Example: Page 37 "Maybe he knew this was going to happen. Maybe its why he called up David and decided to talk as a way of getting there of revisiting the scene now that Jeddy is so sick.
Epanalepsis
Definition: repetition after intervening words.
Example: “And there was no mark on the bench. It’s like it somehow got lifted. Lifted? Jeddy said. You mean lifted up?” Page 62-63
Polysyndeton
Definition: using conjunctions in close succession, especially where is somewhat usually be omitted.
Example:“Must be the liquor prohibition back in the 1920s you are interested in, rumrunners and hijackers, fast boats and dark nights.” page 5
Asyndeton
Definition: omission of conjunctions that ordinarily join words or clauses.
Example: “You know what. Movies, magazines, computer games.”
