TEACHER INTERPERSONAL SKILL
Based on your experience, how do teachers create a harmonious learning atmosphere among students?
Greet students at the school gate every morning
My school teacher will ask about the student's condition like ‘how are you today?’ and give some motivation to students. Students also will do a handshake with teachers and smile at each other every morning.
Communicate well and be friends with students
My teacher always sharing her story that is related to the subject which can give a lesson to students and at the same time, my teacher also listens to student's stories after finishing her teaching. She is really a great listener. It makes me feel comfortable and be active every time during her class because she knows how to communicate with us.
Encourage students to do activities in a group
My school teacher likes to play games and do activities in a group. Students can work together with teammates and help each other. Activities in groups also can avoid racism at school. The learning also becomes more fun.
Based on your experiences during your schooling, how do teachers hone/nurture interpersonal talents and skills within you?
Encourage to participate in contests and volunteer activities
My school teacher always encourages me to join drawing contests because she knows that I love drawing. I become more confident and started to trust myself every time I participate in contests. It also helps to improve my skill.
My school teacher really encourages me to join volunteer activities outside the school. When I joined the volunteer work, I met a lot of people and it really helps me to be brave to communicate with other people.
Do a presentation or speak in front of the class
She always called me to read a text loudly and sometimes asked me to teach other students using a whiteboard.
My teacher always encourages me to talk in front of the class because she knows that I am a shy person, so she wants me to be brave to talk confidently in front of people.
During the presentation, I slowly know how to interact with other students in class. It does help me to build my confidence.
Imagine if you were assigned to a rural / remote area one day, what adjustments would need to be made to improve interpersonal skills?
Communicate well with the people there
As a teacher, I will check if any of my students have problems in studying or going to school. I will try to collect data about their problem of not going to school. I will try to communicate with their parents so that they can share their problems with me. With that data, I will try to find a solution so that no students are left behind.
Get to know about the students
Try to understand the student individually. Know whether the students are slow learners or fast learners.
Try to get along with the students and teach them the way they like. This can help me as a teacher to be more comfortable and motivated to teach in rural areas.
Try to communicate with them and discuss their problem.
Be a problem solver
Think of ways how to provide a good learning environment for my students by discussing and giving suggestions to parliament for that area.
