Anadiplosis
Definition: Repetition of the final words in a sentence or line at the beginning of the next.
Example: ""He didn't touch her, did he?" "He tried to, but she got out too fast."" Pg. 74
Antithesis
Definition: A contrast or opposition between two things
Example: "She was unmarried, younger than my mother, and known for stating her opinions whatever company she was in. It was not how a woman should conduct herself, my mother believed..." Pg. 41-42.
Epanalepsis
Definition: Repetition after intervening words
Example: "He didn't touch her, did he?" Pg. 74
Epistrophe
Definition: The repetition of a word at the end of successive clauses or sentences
Example: "Red, then white. Red, white." Pg. 47
Anaphora
Definition: The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses
Example: "Her coat and hat hung on a hook in the hall, as if she'd only stepped out for a moment. Her wedding china was on display in the parlor cabinet. Her sheet music sat on the piano. Her bold handwriting filled the book of recipes that lay open, more often than not, on the counter where Marina, Jeddy's older sister, was now in charge" Pg. 14
Asyndeton
Definition: Omission of conjunctions that ordinarily join words or clauses.
Example: "Red, white." Pg. 47
Polysyndeton
Definition: Using conjunctions in close succession, especially when some would be omitted
Example: "...how it was done and when and where and so forth." Pg. 32
