Long Term effects
ocean currents
Ocean currents, also known as the earth's conveyer belt, this brings hot air to the poles and cold air down to the equator. This cools down the tropical areas and warms up the poles. Ocean currents also play a big role in keeping the earth warm because the oceans are also absorbing more heat, warming the planet.
continental drift/plate tectonics
When the continents were separated by the drift, it created new ocean currents and winds. Continental drift played a key role in the climate. Plate tectonics create volcanoes and mountains to form, and both of these things are contributing to climate change.
changes in earth orbit/tilt of earth's axis
How our earth is tilted is a big factor in how warm or cold it gets. This changes how the sun's rays hit the earth, therefore making it hotter.
Greenhouse gasses/human activity
Greenhouse gasses are gasses that absorb heat and trap it in our atmosphere, this is why we don't freeze at night. If there are too many greenhouse gasses, the overall global temperature is going to increase because more heat is being trapped and absorbed inside the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses are the main cause of global warming, specifically Carbon Dioxide.
Short term effects
volcanic activity
When a volcano explodes, it produces ash, aerosol droplets, and greenhouse gasses. These particles then linger in the atmosphere for long periods of time. Volcanoes only produce a little number of greenhouse gasses but they still contribute to climate change.
Deforestation
Deforestation contributes to climate change because trees store carbon dioxide, and when they are cut down carbon dioxide is released into the air. Deforestation is contributing to 20% of the greenhouse gas emissions per year.
