Gender inequality in sport
Inequality in marketing
Explanation of solution: Treat men's and women's sport equally in the amount of attention it gets. For example the Women's Wimbledon final is held on the Saturday and the Men's final is held on the Sunday making the men's final seem more important. If the finals switched days each year then they would seem equally important and bring some equality.
This is mostly the social in all of the pestle factors as it effects people and how things are run within the competition. It could also be economical as if more people begin to watch the women's final will bring more money into the women's game.
The positives are that if changing the days of the finals around could increase the amount of people that watch the women's final and therefore potentially increasing the popularity of women's sport however there is potential that a method like this won't work as you could just have everybody who was watching the men's game on the Sunday now only watching on the Saturday and still not watching the women's game on the Sunday, therefore having no impact.
My research is from a BBC website that suggests several different ways of solving gender inequality. This specific example is from BBC.co.uk.
Mix up and alternate men's and women's matches
Explanation: In tournaments where multiple games are played back to back you should alternate each time between a men's and women's games. This means that the women's games will have the same attendance ad audience as the men's game. Promoting the women's games.
This is mostly the social and economic factors as the method would hopefully get more people involved in watching the game ad therefore bringing in more money. The social side of it would be attracting more people to be interested in the women's side of the sport.
The positives are that bu alternating the games in the 7's tournaments it makes a show of men and women being equal and attract more fans. however there is potential for this solution to not work as people could not pay any attention to the games or the women's teams may not be able to complete the games.
My research again is from a BBC website that suggests many different ways the problem could be solved
Provide equal opportunity for women in sport at grass roots level
If you give equal opportunity to girls who want to start a sport at grass roots level it will improve the amount of girls that take part in the sport and therefore making the overall game more equal. This can be done by having more female teams in clubs foe example.
This would be mostly the social factors as it would involve clubs and people in local areas to create the opportunities as well as economic as it would take a bit of money to set up the teams for the players to be involved.
The positives are that more opportunities for women and girls to play sport are created which then incrreases the participation in soprt for women and girls at a grassroots level. Over a period of time this may then have a more positive impact on the game as a whole because you will have more women and girls playing at higher levels and higher standards hopefully thin increasing the popularity of womens sports in general. The negative side is the possibility that you may not get the money to start up the teams or the platers to allow the teams to function.
My research and ideas came from the unwomen.org website in a page that explains gender inequality in sport.
A website or an app where people can report sexism or inequality in their sport
This will help support women in spot as it should get rid of any sexism or gender inequality as it can be reported and solved easily through the website or app. This makes it far easier for the problems to be identified and solved. The only problem is that we will have to get people involved in the idea to make sure that it is well known and easy to use otherwise it wont be affective.
This is mostly social and economic factors as it is aimed at helping people and involves technology in the form of the app or the website
The positives of the idea is that it can really help bring equality to a lot of sports by helping to identify people or clubs that are sexist or not equal and then attempting to solve the issue that is reported. The negatives is that you would have to get the app to be really widely used so that it is most effective.
I got this from I-sight.com in a page that talks about sexism and inequality in sport and some solutions.
Take your kids to watch womens sport.
This is aimed at making generational change. By taking young kids to watch both mens and womens professional sports then the as the kids grow up they always view the mens and womens game to be equal. This then creates a far more equally viewed future of sports.
This is a mix of social and economic as the social would be the impact that it has on future generations views on the game and how much more equally sport will be viewed as well as generating funds on the professional womens game allowing for more investments and improvements in the game.
The positives are that the results of this will be that sport will become far more equal if the next generation has been brought up to view it in that way and it can have a massive impact in the future. The negatives are hat in order for this to work you will need to get the parents to take their kids to the games in order for this to work.
I got this idea from a website uplifterinc.com which writes an article on how to bring sports to be more equal.
