Game Idea 2 Mindmap
Environment/Setting
Objective
How it fits the brief
Gameplay
Jobs
Counter/bar
Chef
Waiter
Deliver food orders from waiters to chefs
Are put in the order of which should be prioritised the most
Some orders take more time to make
Some orders need to be put out faster
Make drinks at the bar
Could be an order from a waiter or a customer who has come up to the bar
Waiters will come with an order list and when the drink is made they will takeit to the table
Customers can walk up to the bar to order a drink which will need to be made straight away
Managers customer complaints
Customers come up to counter to talk about a problem with their dish. The person at the counter will need to notify the chefs to remake parts of or the entire dish
One player works here and interacts with the people doing the other jobs the most. Helps to make everything run smoothly
Some customers come to the counter to complain that their dish is taking too long. This is a sign that their food needs to be delivered to their table soon or they will leave and the restaurant will lose money which will effect the final score when the game ends
Navigate the kitchen
Kitchen will be busy with a lot of equipment placed in certain areas
Movement is limited - space between all the cooking stations are narrow
Will be collision with players and objects
Large objects may need to be pushed away
Players will need to be mindful of each other. It is hard to get past
Make dishes following the orders and recipe
Player will be able to hold a recipe in their hands and put away when not looking at it which have step-by-step instructions on how to cook the dish
"Cut onions on chopping board"
"Fry the vegetables with garlic until golden brown in a frying pan"
There will be instructions on what piece of equipment to use for each step
Around 3 players in the kitchen
Players will need to make an efficient strategy on how to get all the jobs done
Players could assign themselves to do certain jobs in the kitchen to get everything done faster
Communication on what they are doing
How well it is prepared will affect the rating, as well as the time it takes to get to the table
Will need to properly present the dish
In the area where the recipes are hung up dishes are put here for the waiters
Takes orders
Always stationed in kitchen
Goes to tables and needs to correctly note down orders, shown in speech bubbles at the top of the customer's head.
Will also need to wash up all their dishes after a while of use
Multiplayer and teamwork
How VR is used
Requires communication between players
Everyone will need to talk about what they are doing and what needs to be done
Also requires communication with the NPC customers to take orders
Instead of customer saying what they want and the waiter or bartender writes it down, a speech bubble appears over their head with pictures of the dishes they want and their names, which then will be written down by the waiter. This is because it may be hard to hear what they say in the busy environment.
Bad communication makes it harder to play
Uses microphones and online play
For those without microphones, there can also be little messages players can send to each other to say what they need
Around 6 players
3 Chefs
1 at the bar/counter
2 Waiters
Stationed in the dining area
Must take the finished dishes to the correct table
Can balance up to 3 dishes on each arm to speed up delivery but makes it harder to balance
Can fall off and will need to be remade in the kitchen
Cleanup
Brings all dishes and cutlery back to the kitchen after use
Ckears and cleans tables for the next set of customers to use
Meant to make the game feel more realistic
Examples for each job:
Waiter
Hold arms out to balance all the plates
Pretend to hold a pen and pad to take down orders as they select the right one
Chef
Cooking utensils used much the same as real life, e.g shaking a frying pan
Carrying plates to the counter
Get a five star rating in one night of working in a restaurant
Must deliver perfect dishes to customers
Keep restaurant clean and tidy
Mustn't leave customers waiting...
On food
On taking their orders
If you do then it will negatively impact your score. If they leave mid-way of food being made, you will also lose a bit of money earnings from the night
Counter
Pouring drinks - one hand to pour the other to hold the cupand then pass to either the customer or the waiter
Teaches what it is like working in the food industry
First job for most people so it prepares them for it
Platform
Home consoles and PC
Not intended to be a game you bring to places as it doesn't work locally because it could cause safety hazards with players walking into each other
More stable connection so games are less likely to end on a disconnect
Constructive and educational. Player will learn more as they play on how to get better
Working together means that players can help less experienced ones
Difficulty settings
Set in a restaurant
3 areas the players are stationed at
Counter (The smallest)
Kitchen
Dining area
Design and layout
Realistic to the layout of other restaurants
Not many fantasy elements
Simplified design on everything including objects
Gives the game an art style
Easier to find what you are looking for as all materials are bright colours
