Plagiarism is when someone uses another author's words, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as their own. Plagiarism is defined differently in educational settings depending on the institution. Plagiarism is regarded as a breach of academic integrity and journalistic ethics.
Consequences of Plagiarism
Students lose an opportunity to truly gain new knowledge, sharpen their critical thinking and to improve their language skills. (28)

Allegations of plagiarism might result in a student's suspension or expulsion. Their academic record may indicate the ethics violation, and the student may be denied admission to college from high school or another institution. Plagiarism isn’t legally defined in the Malaysian law—however it is widely understood that producing a document without the original creator’s permission can amount to a copyright infringement. However, it’s not plagiarism if you were ‘inspired’ by a certain work, but made sufficient efforts to make it original in its own right; as explained in Section 7(3) of the Act: "(3) A literary, musical or artistic work shall not be eligible for copyright unless- (a) sufficient effort has been expended to make the work original in character; and (b) the work has been written down, recorded or otherwise reduced to material form."
