THE MAIN IDEA is usually given in the first sentence. This is called THE TOPIC SENTENCES. Sometimes THE TOPIC SENTENCES can also be THE LAST SENTENCES or IN THE MIDDLE of a paragraph.
The other sentences are called supporting sentences and contain supporting details, such as EXAMPLES, EXPLANATION, FACTS, DEFINITIONS, and REASONS.
