This poem is about finally waking up and trying to start or open yourself up to new life or a new day.

3 Theme
City life, community or lack thereof and perception
I agree, because...
4 Tone
Calm, and numb (depressed)
Is related, and suitable.
The poet is so disengaged from life despite of being in the liveliest city of the world, New York.
5 Conclusion
I like this poem because
The figurative language (imagery, personification) used really added to the poem and helped the readers visualize angelous' life.
It is short, yet carries a very meaningful theme. It is only those who experience life in the city, that can speak of its true nature.
It is not often, we see the true depiction of life in New York or any other city..
Maya Angelou has many great works, and this is surely one of them.
1 Is the language easy or difficult
Neither, the words used are easy to understand, and so are the first few stanzas. However, the underlying themes of the poem can be difficult to interpret especially in the last lines.
