Types of Chemical Reactions
Combination
A combination reaction is a reaction in which simpler substances are combined into a more
complex compound.
Decomposition
In a decomposition reaction, a single compound is broken down into two or more simpler
substances.
Single replacement
A single-replacement reaction is a reaction in which a more active metal displaces another less
active metal in a compound.
Double Replacement
In a double-replacement reaction, two ionic compounds in aqueous solution switch anions and
produce an insoluble substance.
Combustion
In a combustion reaction, carbon containing compounds, fuel burns in oxygen from the air to produce carbon dioxide, waterand heat or flame
Neutralization
A neutralization reaction is the reaction of an acid and a base.
