Elephant in the room

Health care - kiss a boo-boo example. Doctors buys loyalty for kiss of boo-boo. They don't want to cure disease. There other motives.
We are designed to act on a hidden motives. Selfish motives. But we are trying hard to appear prosocial.
We are not completely unaware of our motives. Some motives we are kind of aware, some obvious.

We are talking about cooperation not selfish because we want to associate ourselves with something good
Competition might be the key why our brains are soo large. We compete with each other. As tall tree compete in the forest for the sun for a high cost.
Laughter

-
Though we use humor to say very serious things. If we didn't laugh person could get offended and even hit us.

People don't care if charity is efficient or not. They just give money to feel good about themselves. And show off after they've done it
Facts: people give money in small amounts (overhead is huge to process the payment), people give to most known charities like United Way but only 4 cent of each dollar goes to people in need. Nobody check if charities if efficient. Nobody cares if this amount would save 2000 or 2 million birds. Amount still will be the same.
Facts: people give better to local kids that international. Give more if other people are watching. Give more if see faces of whom they give money to.
We would save life of the drowning boy at the near pond but would forget about thousand kids in Africa that are killed by mosquito bites
Authors presents with a concept of "marginal charity". Build 11 story building instead of 10. Be nicer to people. Ask for a little but less salary, sell your product for a bit cheaper. My opinion -strange idea - difficult to measure.
Body language

facial expression, tone of voice, space, volume, style

eye contact - high status to low status ratio. Person of high status look at you when they speak same amount of time when they listen. If you are a low-status then you look at your partner 70% or 50% of the time when you speak and 100% of time when you listen

Beer - find your beach Brain washing creating an association between beer and nice life - Pavlov. Bell association with food. Beer association with a beach
Peloton - Mr. Big died, Peloton stock went down Association with a heart attack
To appreciate art we need to see a lot of it. Only real princess could feel pea under 20 mattresses. Because she knew what 20 mattresses should feel like
-
Art - it's a signal of health, spear time and energy
-
Language
-
Any conversation is a job interview. We are applying for a job of friend, lover or leader
-
Social status
- Dominance - achieve by power and force. Stalin
-
Norms
We save energy not to fight every time when someone cuts the line. We have norms. Tax laws, driver license
Norms are about third party disapproval. You don't cut the line not because someone can hit you and you are afraid but because the 3rd party will disapprove it
