Part of the book
The interesting thing is that harpo can't beat Sophia. When two people fight, he is the one who loses. Sofia knew that Celie said this after very angry to find her questioning. Celie said she was jealous that Sofia knew how to fight back. Sofia felt bad for Celie when she found out her story.
Sofia is not the kind of character that Celie is, she will refuse people she considers unreasonable requests, harpo is distressed. He went home to ask mr--- and Celie how to get Sofia to listen. They told him to just hit her and she would listen.
It's really hard for me to imagine that Celie would tell harpo to hit Sophia so that it would make her listen to such words. Just like the Chinese saying that the warrior who slays the evil dragon must also become the evil dragon.
Sofia's parents did not want their daughter to marry harpo, mr - and did not want their son harpo to marry Sofia. But after some time Sofia got pregnant. They can only get married and live together.
I think Sophia and harpo are still too young and therefore impulsive. They decided to get pregnant and get married for the sake of a momentary liking, without spending some time together and without knowing the nature of each other. After marriage will certainly be easy to have conflicts.
Harpo confides in Celie that he has a crush on a girl named Sophia. But Celie is thinking about a girl who is a singer in one of the bars in town. It is said to be very sexy. Only mr-- has seen her in this home. And is very obsessed with her. After that girl left, mr--- was very depressed. Harpo wanted to complain to him, but Celie talked him out of it, telling him that mr--- was not going to listen to his complaints.
From this letter, we can see that harpo and Celie's relationship has gotten a little better. harpo will confide in Celie. I think this is a sign of intimacy.

Say he cry right through the service, his mama stop everything to nurse him. Finish saying I do with a big ole nursing boy in her arms.
