REPORTED SPEECH
Example: He said I was late.
DIRECT SPEECH
Example :’You’re late,’he said.

We change direct speech to indirect speech.We have to change

TENSES
Direct speech: Present continuous—>Reported speech: Past continuous
Direct speech: Past simple—>Reported speech: Past perfect
Direct speech: Present perfect—>Reported speech: Past perfect
Direct speech: Can—>Reported speech: Could
Direct speech:Will—>Reported speech: Would
REPORTED SPEECH: QUESTIONS
change direct questions to reported questions we change
YES/NO QUESTIONS
‘(Someone)asked(me/him/them/ etc.)if…’
Example: He asked me if/whether I was ready.
Wh- Questions
‘(somebody) asked (me/him/them/ etc.)+ question word (where,what,how,etc.)…’
Example: She asked me where I had gone.(reported speech)
Verbs with two object
Some verb can be followed by both an indirect object and direct object.
If we want the direct object to come first
We must put to or for before the indirect object.
For example:
Pu gave his keys to Japan.
Pu bought some flowers for his girlfriend.
