Bread is a staple food in many countries around the world, and each region in a country has its own type of bread, and sometimes bakers give new and creative names such as “ciabatta” (slipper) or “tartaruga” (tortoise) for the various shapes they invent. Bread can be classified in two ways that are by their ingredients and by their form. We use wheat flour and also other types of flour (for example of rye, barley, corn, oat, spelt, spiked millet, and sorghum combined with wheat) to make it. We can add other ingredients like potatoes or other vegetables. There are also several different shapes and ways of baking bread. In the UK for example, they bake bread in loaf pans (pane in cassetta), which are rectangular-shaped pans, used to give them a convenient form that allows to make uniform slicing. The dough to make bread can be leavened or unleavened, and it can be baked, be fried or cooked on a hot surface.
