Disabilities caused by warfare

Five to six years after the bombings, the incidence of leukaemia increased noticeably among survivors. After about a decade, survivors began suffering from thyroid, breast, lung and other cancers at higher than normal rates. Leukaemia was the first cancer to be associated with atomic bomb radiation exposure, with preliminary indications of an excess among the survivors within the first five years after the bombings. An excess of solid cancers became apparent approximately ten years after radiation exposure.

LANDMINES: Landmines are basically explosive devices that are designed to blow when triggered by pressure or a tripwire. The purpose of mines when used by armed forces is to disable any person or vehicle that comes into contact with it by an explosion or fragments released at high speeds.

Antipersonnel landmines are explosive devices designed to be detonated by the presence, proximity, or contact of a person. Made of plastic, metal, or other materials, they contain explosives and sometimes pieces of metal or other objects meant to cause additional injury

Landmines are inhumane because, by design, they inflict brutal damage to the human body that kills or create life-long injuries. Once planted, landmines don't go away until they are removed. Landmines sown during the First World War are still causing death and destruction in parts of Europe and North Africa

Egypt as a Case Study. Egypt has been listed as the country most contaminated by landmines in the world with an estimate of approximately 23,000,000 landmines.
