Protagonist rethinks identity after being exposed to multiple different cultures that change the perception of reality. On Gethen, everyone is gender-neutral by being gender-fluid, thus, eliminating gender. Instead of it being normal to be one gender forever, it becomes abnormal. In a world without sexualized roles, identity is changed because without sex, individuals must be differenciated by other means, more specific than gender or race. As a result, everyone is actually blended together, similar to that of "Jes Grew".
