Lean Manufacturing SICs - Coggle Diagram
Lean Manufacturing SICs
Short Interval Controls (Definition)
Tools for managing a fast moving situtation by having up to the minute info to prompt action to be taken and keep process running optimally (in real time)
A SIC away from target should indicate that action needs to be taken quickly rather than waiting until end of shift
Examples in the food industry
Machine run rate
Average weight
Adherence to plan
Headcount
Shifts
Each shift can be split into short intervals i.e. 4 hours initially
Within 4 hours, plant-floor employees use data to identify and implement improvement actions
Performance can be reviewed 3-4 times per shift to assess where performance needs to be improved
Use of
real-time
production data helps guide instantaneous decision making
Consists of 4 simple elements
1. Look Back
Look at immediate past, previous interval identify top losses
2. Look Forward
Look to next meeting, ahead to immediate future look for events that may affect production
3. Prioritise
Prioritise ideas and select a small set of specific actions to implement during next interval
4. Act
Actions are implemented by plant-floor team during SIC interval
