CONVENTIONAL AGRICOLTURE - Coggle Diagram
CONVENTIONAL AGRICOLTURE
in the PAST
large variety of vegetation: small fields where grass and cereal crops were grown alternated with long rows of trees
land with different types of cultivation: orchards, vineyards, cereals, vegetables
ideal environment for fauna (birds, insects ecc)
agriculture deals with management and cultivation of the soil, the growth and production of crops, raising of livestock to produce food, drugs, fuels, fibers and raw materials

NOWADAYS
organic, sustainable and biodynamic agriculture has started to be practiced by farmers to foster development and maintenance of a healthy environment
it's a farming systems which includes use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, GMOs, intensive tillage, monocolture, heavy irrigation
ASPECTS
NEGATIVE
-the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides/fertilizer which polluting groundwater, desertification, moreover there're insecticides in the food chain
-the over exploitation of the soil which causes water-logging
-the lack in recycling organic matter
-the use of energy intensive systems
-the loss of animal habitats and plant species
-massive administration of antibiotics has led to the development of new strains of bacteria which are antibiotic resistant
-
MONOCOLTURE is the pratice of growing a single crop intensively over a large area of land producing much more than the local market can absorb. Crops grown this way are corn, wheat, soybeans, cotton, rice
UNSUSTAINABLE SYSTEM:
-heavily use of chemical fertilizer/ pesticides
-it depletes the soil of nutrients
-heavy water consumption
-high mechanization
