Injuries
Injuries occur when playing sport, sometimes involving a deliberate act to injure someone.
Criminal cases have been brought for dangerous tackles and violent actions that can result in career ending activities
civil claims are made for injuries and loss of earnings against the person who committed the act. Successful claims must prove the act was outside the playing culture of the sport
Issues relating to player violence mostly dealt with by NGBs. On occasion, players may be prosecuted (eg Duncan Ferguson, Matt Holmes and Roy Keane
Supporters also increasingly facing legal consequences for unacceptable behaviour eg Jack Grealish being punched by a Villa fan
Contractual disputes --> performers are employees and should have the same rights as other workers, greatly improved by the Bosman Ruling of 1995
Contracts with sponsors --> Oakley brought action against Rory McElroy when he left without allowing them the first right of refusal to sign with Nike
