Neuro-muscular system - Coggle Diagram

- - - - The method:
        
        It can be passive or active. It is normally passive and involves a partner helping.
        
        CRAC method - contract , relax, antagonist, contract.
        
        First stretch target muscle to full range of movement.
        
        Hold this position for 5-10seconds, contracting the muscle isometrically.
        
        You then allow the muscle to relax for 10 seconds before stretching the target muscles again.
        
        This should result in an increased range of movement from the original stretch.
    - - The physiology:
        
        Muscle spindles detect changes in muscle fibres
        
        They cause a stretch reflex
        
        designed to prevent overstretching and injury
        
        PNF aims to override the stretch reflex
        
        golgi tendon organs activated / detect overstretching
        
        Muscles relax as they reach autogenic inhibition
        
        Allows greater ROM than in the initial stretch
