WW1
When the army didn't have enough people in the army they used propaganda to get people to enroll. They used 4 techniques:
-
To encourage patriotism - they would say that if you love your country you would fight. Also, it was your duty to fight
-
To shame people who had not signed up - if you were not in the war women would hand out white feathers
Trenches
They had multiple trenches so the ones in the back are safer so people could do things like sleep and recover.
There were a couple: support trenches, communication trenches and the front line trenches

The Christmas Truce
The Christmas Truce was on Christmas Day of 1914. The Germans started singing 'Holy Night' in German when England and it's allies started singing it as well in English just a bit louder. In the morning a British soldier came out of the trench with no guns or weapons and the Germans did not shoot back. They both started to come out of the trenches; they then exchanged presents and talked. They then played a game of football but in the distance you could still hear gunshots and explosions from trenches far away.
