Particles and Mixtures
states of matter
materials come in three different forms - solid, liquid or gas
movement of particles
-
-
bromine gas and air
- bromine gas is a brown, strongly smelling gas. you can use it to demonstrate diffusion in gases
- fill half a gas jar full of bromine gas and the other half with air - separate the gases with a glass plate
- when you remove the glass plate, you'll see the brown bromine gas slowly diffusing through the air
- the random motion of the particles means that the bromine will eventually diffuse through the air
solutions
-
-
-
saturated solution - a solution where the maximum amount of solute has been dissolved so no more solute will dissolve in the solution
-
-
-
elements, compounds and mixtures
-
-
strong forces of attraction holds particles closed together in a fixed position to for lattice arrangement
