In all of the plays that we have studied this semester, it is easy to see where the playwright's personal life comes into play with the text. In Fences, August Wilson's main character deals with racism which was a major issue when he grew up. In Long Day's Journey, Mary, the mother, has a morphine addiction much like O'Neill's mother did when he was growing up. In Fefu, Fornes writes about the challenges a group of women faces and how they combat them as she is a fierce activist for the feminist movement. In Sila, Bilodeau structures her writing around the environment and how we can help to stop climate change as this is very pressing to her. In Mr. Burns, Washburn allows her creativity to shine through with the numerous sets and character costume designs she utilizes. In My Lingerie Play, Oh is very passionate about the world of queer theatre and that shows in the style of dialogue that she employs
