regulated by the video standards council using the PEGI ratings systems - has a rating 12 because the fighting element means the game wasn't suitable for a lower certificate but the violence is fantasy based and non graphic, there is little bad language and no sexual content or drugs so it didn't get a higher certificate

fortnite is a good example of cross media convergence where more than one media brand or form joins to promote each other, fortnite is the most viewed game on Youtube and also has used streaming platforms like twitch - great for marketing to a global audience and encouraging people to share fortnite
fortnite is a franchise - battle royale, save the world, creative - good way to expand and make more money
epic games have synergetic partnerships with other brands to create cross promotion eg they worked with marvel and made avengers themed costumes and events in fortnite

fortnite is a very popular game that is bought and played by millions
fortnite is an example of the 'Games as a Service' where there is a constant revenue stream from 'in game purchases' after the initial purchase eg buying v bucks which allow people to buy new costumes etc
fortnite often consists of new 'skins' and 'emotes' to buy
they also offer season passes that you can subscribe to that allows you to access new content over the course of a period gameplay that play for free players cant access
items released are often labelled as limited edition to make them seem exciting and desirable

cartoon like graphics and the very little explicit or realistic violence are suitable for younger audiences

mobile nature makes it hard for parents to monitor their children, many children under 12 have the game
