Early Life
Daniel O' Connell was born near Cahirciveen, Co.Kerry in 1775.

Daniel O' Connell lived in his uncle's house, Derrynane Abbey.
Education
Daniel O' Connell's earliest form of education was in a local hedge school, run by a 'travelling schoolmaster'.
Since he was Catholic, hedge schools were one of the only ways it was possible for him to get education.
Travelling schoolmasters travelled from place to place, which meant Daniel's education was often interrupted for long periods of time.
During Daniel O' Connell's time in France he witnessed the violence of the French Revolution, and due to this violence he left only two years later.

He qualified as a barrister, or lawyer, in 1798.
Daniel had a powerful speaking voice and was excellent at debating. As a result, he became a very successful Catholic barrister.
Daniel moved to France to get a better education in 1791, when he was 16.
