Social causation hypothesis for SZ

Immigration and minority status

Social Isolation

Social advertisity

Urbanicity

Some factors lead to a stressful live in urban environments

Crime can make someone stressful and uneasy as they'll be constantly fearing for themselves, their loved ones, or their belongings

Some might find the fast pace of big cities (like London) exhausting and hard to keep up with

Light pollution (a lot of streetlights) can lead to aggregated eyes

A person's physical health can be negatively impacted by pollution (like by asthma) and the noise can lead to poor sleep

Traffic pollution can make people stressed as it may make them late to important places and events

This means that a person's physical, intellectual, emotional, or social needs aren't being met.

This could be due to the lack of government/community help, for example this could be an inadequate social safety net in terms of money and bad mental healthcare by not funding services enough

For example unemployment may lead to poverty, which leads to poverty and poor nurtition

Some people may find contact with others stressful so they might start isolating.

This means that these individuals are cut off from their support networks (friends and family) so they don't get feedback for dysfunctional or inappropriate behaviour

These dysfunctional behaviours may lead to SZ if social contact gets cut

Minorities aren't more at risk of SZ because of instrinsic factors (like genetics)

They're more at risk because of the prejudice and discrimination they may face

Direct discrimination could be overt racism while indirect could be discrimination while searching for a job

Furthermore 2nd gen immigrants are more at risk of SZ than 1st gen immigrants

This is because their family norms are in conflict with the societal norms they live in
