There is a child in need.
Parents request an evaluation for the child
School professional requests an evaluation for the child
Child is evaluated
Does the child have a disability?
What special education services or programs does the child need?
Parents and school professionals must meet to discuss IEP for the student.
Consent to give educational services or programs must be granted by the parents. After it is, the IEP will guide the student.
Everyone that works with the child must know the IEP. The appropriate accomodations, modifications, and support are given.
The parents are regularly informed about the child's progress. Everyone will need to determine if the child can meet the goals by the end of the school year.
After one year, the IEP is reviewed.
Do parents have suggestions or concerns?
Would the parent like additional tests or would they like to modify the child's placement?
Do parents agree?
The parents and professionals look at the results
Not really evaluation. More like assessment. We can have a little meeting with the chinese teacher. We can conduct a short quiz asking students to complete basic tasks that leading students(in the class) can complete. If they don't do well, it is important to let them understand that they should cooperate with the English teacher as much as they can, so that they can improve in some tasks or abilities.
Stop following daily routine
First, let's try differentiated instruction
Signs a student is struggling (based on interviews)
They demand extra attention
They become more social
They become less social
Appear confused (school is too different than home)
Struggle to eat their food in a timely manner
Group similar students together and have a mini lesson
Ask the students what they would like to learn.
Negotiate with the students who don't like to have a 1-1 English lesson. Aim for the students who don't try very hard to meet with me at least 2x a week over 0 times a week during the appropriate time.
Play montessori activities with them first; then have a short English lesson afterwards. This can help students who don't like to study much.
