Michaelangelo's work (seen to the left) demonstrates the traditional, very ideal set of physical attributes
, is represented to a series of ratios (commensurability), and exemplifies contrapposto (counterpose), which is the idea that the figure should be very balanced in its dynamic manner. Bernini's work, however, shows the figure in a very active stance, as if he has the stone in his hand and is mid-throw; nonetheless, it appears that the figure is still very balanced.
Additionally, Bernini's sculpture is also meant to be viewed from all angles and for the viewer to circulate it. This is unlike Michaelangelo's as his sculpture assumes a more frontal orientation.
