Quality, Redundancy, Annotation
User needs to be aware of way data is entered, analysed and interpreted to be able to assess the possible deficiencies in data
Quality
Seq submitted to one of DNA databases is owned by original submitter + any co-authors, data checked by library staff for obvious errors but quality is responsibility of submitter
So there can be entries containing errors in seq or annotation BUT some curators like SWISS-PROT check entries to maintain quality of DB
Redundancy
Problem for DNA databases as same sequence from same organism may be submitted many times by diff groups
Automatic seq clustering methods have been developed in effort to address redundancy issues by grouping together seq that appear to be derived from same gene
