In the past decade, Canada has seen an immense spike in overdoses/drug related deaths. Between 2016 and 2020 an estimated 6,819 people died from fatal opioid overdoses in Ontario alone, which made up 35% of the opioid overdoses across Canada. In early 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic first hit Canada, there was another large increase in the amount of drugs being used and along with it came many more overdoses. This wave of addiction affected everybody, including homeless people, family members, and friends.
All of the stakeholders want to keep the addicts healthy, and make sure that a minimal amount of people get addicted and overdose, so we can all live in a safer country. Together, they have an incredibly strong influence as they take up many aspects of society, from personal connections all the way to the leaders of a country.
