Concepts for theoretical framework
PCR
PCR is a method to collect a big amount of DNA.
DNA sequencing
DNA sequencing is used to determine the order of the four chemical building blocks which are called bases.
Genes
Genes are information unit that carries a genetic product as proteins or RNA.
It stores the genetic information transmitted in generations.
Phylogenetic tree
Phylogenetic trees show the relation in the evolution of different species that may have an ancestor in common.
Taxonomy
Taxonomy is the classification of groups of organisms that share characteristics.
Ancestral lineage
An ancestral lineage shows the ancestors of species or a specific organism.
Clade
A clade is a group of different organisms that is thought that have the same ancestor.
Monophyletic and non-monophyletic group
A monophyletic group is like a clade, it shows all the ancestors and descendants of an organism.
The difference between both is that a monophyletic group is separated by one cut, but the other one is separated by two or more.
Divergence event
This is the process in which two or more populations of ancestral species accumulate independent genes/mutations with time.
Internal node
The internal node is the node of a tree that has child nodes.
Common ancestor
A common ancestor is when two or more organisms have or share one or more organisms in their linear tree.
