The English were near to their own naval ports, this means they did not have to travel far to get to the Spanish fleet. This meant the English were better prepared with fresh sailors
Bad Spanish tactics
Spanish wanted to board the English ships which means they would have had to get alongside the English ships leaving them open to attack by English cannons.
