Theoretical Framework
Genes
A hereditary unit that is transferred from a parent or offspring and is held to determine some character of the offspring
Ancestral Lineage
It is the line of descendants of a particular ancestor or a family.
Internal Node
A node of a tree that has one or more child nodes, equivalently, one that is not a leaf, it is also known as a nonterminal code or parent root.
Taxonomy
The classification of something, especially organisms.
Phylogenetic Tree
It is a diagram that depicts the lines of evolutionary descent of different species, organisms, or genes from a common ancestor.
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
It is a technique used to make copies of segments of DNA
It can be used to amplify or copy a segment of DNA.
Monophyletic and non-monophyletic group
A monophyletic group, sometimes called a clade, includes an ancestral taxon and all of its descendants. A monophyletic group can be separated from the root with a single cut, whereas a non-monophyletic group needs two or more cuts.
Divergence event
It is a process in which 2 or more populations of an ancestral species accumulate independent genetic changes (mutations) through time, often leading to reproductive isolation and continued mutation even after the populations have become reproductively isolated for some period of time.
Clade
A group of organisms believed to compromise all the evolutionary descendants of a common ancestor.
Common Ancestor
It is the term we use to refer to the living thing of which 2 or more species derive from.
DNA Sequencing
It is a process that helps determine the nucleic acid sequence.
