How does conflict cause change?
Conflict can lead to good and bad changes. It is positive when it leads to necessary changes by signaling a problem. It is bad when it involves anger and may lead to destructive behavior.
As we find solutions to our struggles, conflict leads to new ways of thinking and strategy.
What is conflict?
Conflict is a argument, disagreement, or problem in a situation. Conflict can cause change for the better or worse of a situation
There are three different types of conflicts. Man vs Man, Man vs nature, and man vs self
Conflict in books
The mayor of Casterbridge
Conflict: Henchard and Farfrae both fall in love with Lucetta
Change: Even though Lucetta promised to marry henchard, she loves Farfrae and is not in love with henchard. Elizabeth Jane is mad that Lucetta likes the same person she likes.
Conflict: Henchard sells his wife and kid at the fair while he was drinking.
Change: Henchard does not drink for 21 years after to show that he regrets his decision and has changed. He does not want something like this to happen again.
Conflict Henchard tells Newsom that Elizabeth Jane is dead so that he wont go looking for her
Change: She finds this out and begins to hate him
The whirligig
The conflict in The Whirligig was when Brent had to meet the mother of the girl he killed. He then had to go across the country to place the whirligigs. He ended up growing as a person and had a much better outlook on life
How does conflict connect to other classes?
Cause: You fall asleep in class
Change: You are not going to know whats going on in the class because you were not paying attention.
Cause: You are put into a group that you don't like the people in the group
Change: You learn to be more assertive and work with new people who you may not like
Cause: You don't study for a test
Change: You will get a bad grade on the test, now you might study more for the next test.
