Earth's Spheres - Coggle Diagram
Earth's Spheres
Atmosphere: Layer of gasses around earth
The atmosphere contains greenhouse gasses which are:
Methane
Water vapor
Carbon Dioxyde
Oxygen and nitrogen are the most abundant gasses in the atmosphere.
Greenhouse gases allow earth to maintain a warm temperature.
Human impact: Burning of wood and coal -> Air pollution.
Hydrosphere: All the places water is found.
The Cryosphere is the part of the hydrosphere that contains water in its solid form.
Earth's Water:
Saltwater: 97%
Glaciers and ice sheets: 2.07%
Groundwater: 0.9%
Other freshwater: 0.03%
Human impact: Humans store water in reservoirs and cisterns -> disrupts the water cycle.
Geosphere: The geosphere consists of Earth’s core, mantle and crust.
The core is divided into two sections: The solid inner core and the liquid outer core.
The solid exterior of the planet is called the crust. It is composed of rocks and minerals dominated by eight elements: oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
Earth’s crust is classified as:
oceanic crust
continental crust
Human impact: Mining
Biosphere
Living things on earth.
Solar wind
Earth's magnetic field
Earth is an open system. The planet is continually gaining and losing energy. In terms of matter, however, Earth is considered a closed system.
Maintaining a healthy biosphere requires high levels of biological diversity.
Human impact: The manufacture and consumption of luxuries and careless use of resources.
